Here's what is really happening
I was on Twitter yesterday evening and realized how much free value there is on the platform.
On YouTube, creators and millionaires share their step-by-step process for achieving their goals. And all you have to do is hit play (survive the ads), and boom…free knowledge!
This is basically what the internet has become. An information tool. And this is what separates us from the previous generation.
They had to work a bit harder to find information, and when they eventually did, they had to focus even more on implementing it because of how scarce it was.
They’d either go to school or learn a trade through apprenticeship. These were the two ways people got rich in the past.
You could say they had information scarcity.
Today, information is everywhere. You can open YouTube and get tips from Bill Gates on getting rich. You can learn any skill that can change your life entirely in just six months.
We have information and speed.
But I’ll argue that it has brought with it a problem, which is a focus problem.
I don’t think anyone is particularly unambitious. We are just overwhelmed by the many options out there.
Imagine a child locked up in a candy store - my childhood dream. They’d have infinite options; the typical thing to do is try as many as possible. And in a few minutes, tons of half-eaten candy will be everywhere.
This is the same fate of many creators. The abundance of information has birthed a focus problem.
What’s the solution?
It’s pretty apparent: Take one cookie at a time. And then take another similar-looking one.
I will be straight with you. You won’t make that much money with just one skill. As a digital writer, for example, you need to learn:
SEO
Sales
Copywriting
Basic Graphics Design
Social media growth tactics
Email marketing and Lead generation
This is the foundational knowledge required. Then, as you progress and hire a team, you will need to learn more about management, etc. In other words, lots of candy.
But the best way is to take one candy at a time. This is how you win in this focus-deficient age.
Hope this helps
